In Spring of 2010, Wanderlust Circus will begin production on a show like none that has ever been. The show depicts a magical bazaar that follows an immortal traveling circus all around the world. Our world-class acrobats and variety artists are a play-within-a-play, the performance of the circus troupe that makes up the bulk of stage time, laced through with the intrigue and secret history of the characters' lives.
With this show, we incorporate existing aspects of our make-believe history into a cohesive story. The idea is that The Wanderlust Circus has been wandering the Earth for 150 years, a sort of Flying Dutchman of circuses, ever since ringmaster William Batty lost his legendary Hippodrome theater in London. As long as one continues to travel with the circus, one never grows old. But as soon as you leave, time catches up with you. This is the reason why such a colorful and varied cast of characters is following the circus through all its ups and downs - because they want to live forever, and nobody can figure out Batty's secret of eternal life. Not for want of trying.
Our musical score is composed and performed by the band Juan Prophet Organization on violin, clarinet, accordion, glockenspiel, trumpet, saxophone, guitar, drums, bass, and a panoply of other instruments. An assortment of standards and original songs provide a third major aspect of the show - a fairytale circus operetta for the 21st century.
