John Whelan and the Celtic Roses

John Whelan's Transatlantic Project

Friday, November 22, 2024

7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Artists: John Whelan, Celtic Roses

Often hailed as one of the world’s best living Irish button accordion players, seven-time All-Ireland champion John Whelan has been praised for his “humor and high energy blend with impeccable musicianship” by The Wall Street Journal. John embodies the dichotomy of being forward-thinking while still deeply rooted in tradition. He fearlessly explores the creative reaches of music, artistry, and expression while carefully preserving the musical roots from which he originally flourished and passing those on to the next generation.

Jacopo Ventura, a respected guitarist in the folk and traditional music scene, has been touring the world for two decades with ESG, Lyradanz, and other Bal folk formations. He has been accompanying Jason O'Rourke on guitar for years. Their collaboration has led to the production of the album "The Sunny Side of the Latch." Jacopo is co-founder of Gadan, the first Italian band ever to perform at the Milwaukee Irish Festival.

Lorenzo Testa, a tenor banjo and mandolin player, is the founding member of the Celtic rock band Uncle Bard & The Dirty Bastards, the first Italian band ever to play at the Dublin Irish Festival in the USA. Together with Jacopo, he also co-founded Gadan, a groundbreaking new Irish trad formation, with four tours in the US under their belt and an extensive summer tour in 2024 with Enda Scahill of WeBanjo3, from Galway, Ireland.

Perla Davide, one of the finest and most renowned Irish dancers in Italy and beyond, has competed twice in the World Championships. She is also highly regarded as a choreographer and teacher. Despite her young age, over the years she has collaborated with artists from around the world, performed in festivals and venues all over Europe, and founded the dance company Celtic Roses.

Letizia Perin, co-founder of the Celtic Roses project, is a professional dancer and teacher specializing in Irish dance, which she has practiced since a young age. She has been performing for over ten years in theaters and at some of the most important folk festivals in Italy and abroad.
